Testing the Waters

Wishing Well Waters Hydrotherapy Resource Project: Feasibility Study-Phase 1

Wishing Well Waters

Working To Keep Your Head Above Water

The Feasibility Study - Phase 1
Funding for the initial Feasibility Study for Wishing Well Waters was provided by Unltd, a Millennium Awards Trust.

How will our project meet the identified need?

Wishing Well Waters will provide a resource where people can receive appropriate hydrotherapy treatment in a suitable user friendly warm exercise pool, with professionally trained staff on hand. People will be able to take their exercise/treatment in pleasant surroundings and find an opportunity to socialise with others.

Clients will be able to access the facilities and attend whenever they are able, without restriction on the number of sessions permitted. The project will be user friendly and those attending will be encouraged to make suggestions on how the service can be improved upon.

Breaking the 'isolation factor' for many people is extremely important. WWW will provide a service that meets that challenge and strives to ensure that everyone attending the pool has the opportunity to engage with others if they so wish. This project will provide Gwynedd with a unique Health and Social Care Resource that will benefit many people within the community.

The Government at both the National and Local level along with many allied bodies are all stressing the need for everyone to 'exercise'. For many, the options of suitable and appropriate exercise facilities are limited. WWW wishes to help address that problem and highlight the need for other such facilities.

The National Service Frameworks emphasises the need for 'Quality Care, Clinical Excellence and Patient Choice' to be addressed across the Health Care Sectors. Implementation of improved standards is to be achieved through partnerships with Health and Social Care Organisations and local community initiatives and groups.

PRESENTATION INFORMATION

Making Waves
A Focus Meeting was held in Porthmadog during May 2004. A presentation of information was given in order to update and advise supporters and interested parties as to the progress of the project. The event was open to the public and was well attended by politicians, health officials, community group representatives and potential resource users.

Wishing Well Waters would aim to provide a stare/stair free zone and

· a pool at 33/34 degrees plus (essential to prevent muscle spasm),
· complete accessibility (from parking/drop-off point to pool),
· non-clinical surroundings with suitable rest areas
· a self-referral system ensuring open access particularly to those who need to address long term maintenance issues
These features will help to maximise the benefits of hydrotherapy
